We’ve all speculated that Google would build an Operating System, and take another shot at redefining the way we use computing technology. Last night they finally officially announced their intent, and also tagged some vague timelines to it.

It’s definitely another reason to ensure your up to speed on HTML 5 and the latest web development technologies. This will effectively start adding hardware and local device support to web applications. We’ve had this thru Flash and some other technologies, but with google pushing a new OS and partnering with hardware manufacture’s to deliver it on netbooks and other hardware, I believe we’ll see a push for cross platform apps to be web-based.

Here is there post: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/introducing-google-chrome-os.html

Experimenting with using my ipod touch as a one handed keyboard for my mac book pro – not too bad , slow because i can not touch type on the ipod, but with a little practice it could be effective.

Of course punctuation and symbols are really difficult to use but the overall typing isn’t bad, so why would I be doing this? Because I am 6’4″ tall and on an air plane in economy class with a mac book pro 15″ there is not quite enough room to type two handed. Using the ipod touch as a keyboard is less annoying than the funky position required to do otherwise. i wish i had bought a twiddler2 while they were available.

Ok I just used the spell checker to fix a few stupid mistakes that I made thinks to the ipod keyboard and the size of my fingers but all in all it worked well.

I have been playing with new android G1 the last day or two… Best app for me so far – ConnectBot a nice little SSH client, with some good keyboard support. The track ball clicked is your control key. When I am back on the ground I’ll have to check and see if there is an equivalent app in the T-Mobile market.

I just tried doing this two handed => FAIL, thumbs too big and inaccurate.

I do miss having cursor keys.

So the app i am using is called ‘Air Mouse’, I also had to enable internet sharing so my ipod touch could find my MBP. I don’t think I’m supposed to do that while in flight… oops, if you read this then there was no negative consequences because I was able to land and then post this to my blog.

Enough diversion with this post, back to working on the new confreaks web app, with my ipod touch as the keyboard.
